These artworks are legally a part of the nonprofit talkPOPc, Inc. Therefore, buying one of these is a tax-deductible gift, and will further the mission of talkPOPc.
As a product, these “Converse Thoughts” are not just artworks (or decorative baubles that go on the wall or as an asset in a portfolio). They are not mere paintings. Rather, the painting surfaces, which encourage contemplation beyond simple pictorial recognition, serve as a portal into another world: The world of thought.
“Thought” is bundled into the product itself in the form of a separate text (which is sometimes spoken on video by our puppet mascot, Popsey). Upon purchase, private access is provided to the corresponding textual component of the “Converse Thought”.
In addition, talkPOPc supporters become members of the larger conversation that is singularly talkPOPc. It is a membership constituted by those who have gathered to think about, discuss, and come to consensus on a particular topic. It is BuildingThought .
Funds from these purchases go to support several different talkPOPc causes. These causes include talkPOPc events at local (e.g., NYC region) venues as well as international (e.g., European) exhibition venues. (See associated archive here.) In addition, purchases also fund talkPOPc’s prison project. This mission now includes classes and events at the MDC (Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn, New York), wherein inmates are taught both drawing and philosophy, and given some of the pleasures of a talkPOPc experience.
We need your support! To contribute to these important activities, please contact us for more information on prices (or request a private viewing) at talkpopc@gmail.com.
All purchases are tax deductible.
